Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what level class I need to register my child for?

The best way for everyone to know the right answer for this is to contact us and let us know how old your child is and how much experience he or she has in dance. From there we will try to point you in the right direction and your child can try a class for free to make sure he or she is happy and that the instructor can see if this is the right level for your child.

How do I register my child for dance?

You need to come to the studio, talk to us, and fill out one of our registration forms.

How do I pay for dance?

Tuition is due each month by the 7th. We accept cash, checks, and all major debit/credit cards. You need to come into the studio to pay, unless if you mail in your check.

What does my child need to wear for dance?

We have a page on our website that has our current dress code. Please know that the dress code is not a suggestion, but a mandatory policy.

Where do I buy dance clothes and shoes?

Sometimes Target will have dance attire for younger students. Now that our local dance wear store has closed there is Ellman’s in Richmond. But we also recommend Discount Dance and Amazon.

What happens if my child needs to miss a class?

For private lessons you need to call the studio and we will need 24-hours notice for that lesson to be made up. For group classes, please call us and let us know if your child will be absent due to illness or a school function. We only allow 4 absences between October-December and 4 absences between February-June if your child wishes to participate in the recital.

What if my child needs to drop a class?

You will need to fill out a “drop” form for our 30 day policy of dropping a class. We need notice by the 1st of the month or you will need to pay for the next month as well. Once February 1st comes, you are contracted through the rest of the school year (through June). If you need to drop a class you are only allowed to do so from September-January.

When do you do recitals?

We do 2 dance recitals each school year at Riverbend High School. One is a Christmas recital where Ballet students will perform excerpts from “The Nutcracker” and we will select other classes to dance to popular holiday songs. And then we hold our big end of the school year recital in May.

What if a month is short and my child only gets 2 or 3 group classes or private lessons?

If a month is short, it is due to holidays or dress rehearsals for our recitals. Your tuition is still a full month’s tuition.

What is your policy on inclement weather?

Each class and private lesson is allowed to have 2 inclement weather days. If your child is in a dance class on a Thursday and we miss 1 or 2 Thursdays due to bad weather, a make-up class will not be done. If we end up missing a third class, we will then schedule a make-up class on a Saturday or during Spring Break. We will announce closures on our Facebook page. Even if you do not have a Facebook page, you can go to our website and click on the small Facebook icon in the top right corner.

We will announce our decision by 2pm and on Tuesdays we will announce our decision by 11am. Since our students travel from several counties in our area, we do not go by just Spotsylvania County School’s decision. We will make our own decision since sometimes roads are safer the hours we hold classes.

How much are tickets for your recitals?

Tickets are $15 for our Christmas recital. And for June, we do a $60 recital fee per family (and $15 for each additional sibling). This is so we have the money upfront for the school rental fee, backdrop fees, program fees, prop fees, and other miscellaneous expenses.

What can you tell me about your competition team?

The Fierce Squad of Artistry is the name of our Competition Dance Company. These students rehearse, take certain required classes each week, attend dance conventions and master classes, compete at dance competitions, and audition for us in May.

FSA also does private music and dance lessons. How do these work?

Yes. We believe that private lessons are a great way for your child to grow in the arts. Students can take private dance lessons to get more one-on-one attention in any style of dance. We also do private voice, piano, and guitar lessons. Private lesson time slots are limited and not posted on our website. Please contact us to see about availability. In private music lessons, we expect the students to practice during the week so the student will need to have access to a piano or guitar during the week. Private lessons are 30-minutes and meet once a week and are $105 a month.

We have the same drop policy as group lessons, but we will do make-ups for missed private lessons ONLY if 24-hours notice is given. We will also do a Christmas and Spring Music recital, held at the studio to show what the students have been working on. We also believe that performing these talents in front of an audience is great for confidence!

How can I stay current and updated on things involving The Fredericksburg Studio of the Arts?

Each family at our studio has a folder that goes by the child’s last name that is at our front desk. We will put newsletters in there every month. So checking your folder each week is a great way to stay updated. We will also put the newsletters and important information on our website. And also check our Facebook page since we update that regularly.

Why is the Fredericksburg Studio of the Arts the best studio for my child?

We are getting ready to start our 11th year in business. Our growth each year shows we are the place to be. We offer numerous classes in all forms of dance, as well as, music. We are also getting our LimeLite Theatre Company for kids and adults up and running! Every instructor is highly educated in their field and has not only taught dance, but has worked professionally in the dance, music, or theatre world. At FSA, we believe in being a family and putting the children first. We know that FSA is the best studio for your child to learn, build confidence, find their passion, and gain lasting friendships.
